Rooibos tea is a safe to consume as any other green tea.

In some rare cases, people with hormone-sensitive conditions can increase estrogen production.

The effects are very mild though and would likely require you to drink large amounts of tea.

If you purchase rooibos loose leaves, you can choose one of 2 ways to brew. One, brew using tea bags. Two, brew the tea leaves themselves.

For best result, brew using 1.5 teaspoons of the rooibos tea leaves per every 8 oz of boiling water.

Method 1

Brew Using Tea Bags

Step 1

Most of our picks for best rooibos tea brand already come in tea bags with one exception on our list.

If you purchased rooibos in loose leaves, such as Davidson’s Organic Rooibos Tea and prefer using tea bags, you will first need to get your hands on store-bought tea bags.

You can also get them here.

Fill the tea bag with 1.5 teaspoons of rooibos tea leaves.

You can skip this step if you already have rooibos in tea bags.

Step 2

Next, we start to prep our main ingredient for our tea, water.

Fill your teapot/kettle (or regular pot) with filtered or spring water.

Rooibos tea tastes amazing when boiled at 212°F or 100°C.

The best way to determine the heat of the water is to use a food thermostat.

Unless you’re using an electric kettle, such as Willow & Everett’s Gooseneck Kettle.

I Highly recommend using spring water or using filtered water from a home filter such a Brita

Step 3

Place your rooibos tea bag in a cup or mug. If you enjoy a stronger tasting tea, using two tea bags can increase the flavor.

You can add any additional sweeteners and/or milk (creamer).

Make sure to mix well afterward.

Step 4

Finally, let the tea steep.

Compared to other teas rooibos tea takes longer to release its antioxidants and nutrients.

For that reason its best to steep for 5 to 10 minutes; 10 minutes being the best amount of time.

Method 2

Brew Using Rooibos Tea Leaves

Step 1

start by preparing the tea leaves, use 1.5 teaspoons of rooibos tea leaves for every cup (8oz)

Step 2

Bring water to a boil, the ideal temperature for rooibos tea is 212°F or 100°C.

The best way to determine the heat of the water is to use a food thermostat unless you use an electric kettle, such as Willow & Everett’s Gooseneck Kettle.

Highly recommend using spring water or using filtered water from a home filter such a Brita.

Step 3

Pour the boiling water over tea leaves and let the rooibos tea leaves steep for 5 to 10 minutes.

After the tea has finished releasing its nutrients and antioxidants, filter or sieve the tea leaves out.

Then pour and serve into a cup (mug).
